hey,

For those of you who have seemed to misplace your joy, bliss, or sparkle, let me re-introduce you to your “Enchantment.” I suppose the last time you heard that word you were watching some trailer for a Disney movie. I mean who could possibly bring enchantment into the 21st century?  Now, June Cleaver….she would have been a good candidate for enchantment, but today’s woman is much too busy and far too stretched.

It’s true, women have way too much stuff on their plate. I don’t know a single woman who isn’t juggling family, work, and chores while trying to squeeze in an hour to shave her legs and file her nails. The word “busy” has gone up ten fold.  We don’t just  separate the laundry anymore, we have to separate the garbage and the recycling, politics and religion, fun and life. I hate to say it, but the physical demands and  emotional  wear and tear are taking a bit of a toll on our spirit.

At some point, our society decided to make life more complicated.  While most of us had little say in that decision, we are feeling the adverse effects and being pulled in every direction.  Too many women are tired, stressed, and passionless.  This is precisely why it’s a good idea to pause and  reconnect with your joy.  Oh sure … .It would be nice to grab a lounge chair by the pool, pour a nice wine cooler,  and spend a few hours daydreaming about enchantment, but I’m afraid that most women would find that sort of behavior self indulgent. For the record, self care and replenishment are not selfish…and they are quite necessary.

You and I could probably list three or four friends right now who are burning the candle on both ends. We might even put ourselves in that category.  Well Sisters, here is what we need to remember.  If we don’t believe in magic or find time for enchantment… then we certainly can not invite it into our lives.

Could you imagine if we could just pull up to a drive thru window and place an order for happiness?  “Can I please have a LARGE LIFE, a double order of passion, two packets of bliss, twelve naps, four spa treatments,  a trip to Europe, and a zucchini muffin?”  Yes, that would be absolutely fantastic!  We could just swipe a Visa and be on our merry way.  Well,  as life would have it, we are highly encouraged to participate in creating our own joy.  We are learning that the fruit of our lives is in our labor,  the victories are in our choices, and peace will come once we are brave enough to look at the uncomfortable things that weigh us down.

If everything in the world is supposedly getting faster, easier, and more convenient… Then why are so many people feeling like something is missing from their lives?   Well, egos drive our economy, and our culture has a shallow understanding of soul care. The world is shouting at us, “C’mon! Let’s Go! Hurry-up! What’s taking you so long? You’re just not good enough!”  Meanwhile, the soul is whispering, “Can we take it down a little bit? Can we take a walk, sit, pray or just “BE” for a little while?  I got you!  I love you just the way you are.”  Without bringing “Yanny or Laurel” into a full discussion, I wonder which voice  you are listening to.

In order for all of us to feel more fulfilled and have an experience of enchantment, we will need to put more energy into the things that bring us joy.  Have you thought about that lately?  Do you know what makes your heart sing? What is that diversion in your life that makes you get lost in time, splendor, and creativity?  If there was one blessing that came from the North Bay Tubbs Fire in October is that we all stopped to think about what really matters. Sadly, many people lost their stuff, but some people actually found their soul.   Those who were awakened by the trauma are now seizing each day by insisting on love and filling their time with things they are passion about.

If you ask any amazing manifestor, they will tell you that in order to receive blessings and abundance from the Universe, we must be willing to create it in our imagination first.  We must see it, smell it, taste it … .savor the flavors and raise that experience in our conscious minds by asking for it and writing it down.  Yes, in order to find our true enchantment we will need to embrace some magical vision for ourselves that includes recreation, comfort, self compassion, and love.

If somewhere in your daily conversations, you are hinting to others that you are restless and seeking more fulfillment, then it’s time to pull out a piece of paper and get cozy with that word, “ Enchantment.”  Ask yourself, “If time, money, and obligation were nonfactors, what would you do right now?”  You might be surprised to learn that your heart has been running a list of ideas for quite some time.  Perhaps your sweet pleasure is traveling,  walking on the beach, writing in a journal, golfing, painting, bird watching, or gardening.  Yes, those are lovely pastimes that hold the energy of joy and enchantment.

Your challenge is to find that spark and claim it without apology.  It may be something that you are good at or something that you’ve just always wanted to try….zip lining, hiking, or karaoke.   Whatever it is….it will engage your curiosity and enthusiasm.  You just have to let your guard down and raise your own vibration instead of worrying about everyone else.  Joy sounds a little like kids playing at the park,  waves crashing on the beach,  birds chirping at sunrise, or water rushing down a creek. Your enchantment has nothing to do with anyone else.  It’s your own delicious time. Yes, it is that beautiful romance that we have with ourselves where we are listening to our desires, pleasing our senses, and affirming our passion.

Women are so much more than the daily grind, and we may be losing ourselves in our chores and responsibilities.  We may need to start treating ourselves more like a princess.   Yes, women have a very tricky role in today’s world.  We have been conditioned to take care of everyone else and then we usually get what is left over.   I don’t know about you…..but I’m kinda tired of leftovers.  The truth is…by the time I meet everyone’s needs, it’s 9pm, I’ve missed another episode of “The Voice” and I just want to feel clean sheets and my favorite pillow.  While my family is happy and I’ve checked off all the boxes on my “To Do List,”   I have fallen into a very into slum version of enchantment.

So what can we do to raise the level of joy in our daily lives?  We have approximately twelve hours in the day to do something kind for ourselves.  Is the answer to this dilemma that we need more time, or do we just need to shift our mindset?  I recently met a young woman named Robbie Myers at a Celebrate Your Life conference with Elizabeth Gilbert and Martha Beck. We were talking about life and the idea of creating joy and magic on a daily basis.  She handed me a decal that she created. It says, “Nothing changes if nothing changes.” I have since stuck that profound message on my laptop.  It reminds me everyday that I’m the one that has to prioritize myself. There is no knight in shining armor coming to save me.  There is no magic wand that I can wave to make chores go away, and there’s no amount of physical stuff that I can order from Amazon to fill that yucky void inside me.

The answers to life’s biggest questions can be resolved by getting in touch with your heart.  Yes, it’s time to spend less time in your head. You see, the head will berate you over and over about all the stuff you have to do.  It teams up with your ego and fear and scolds you when you try to  take time for yourself.  The head arranges all kinds of drama.  It feeds into the cultural pressure that wants you to abandon your dreams and individuality.  Yes, the head taunts us daily with rude messages, “You aren’t good enough, smart enough, small enough, pretty enough,  successful enough, brave enough or lovable enough to have happiness.”

Well, have no fear! This is the moment  that the heart swings in to save the day. You see, the heart will only whisper love and encouragement.  It has a kind and unconditional tone that brings us back to what really matters.  It tells us everyday to make ourselves a priority,  feed our passion, and be happy.  The heart wants you to take a pottery class, read a book on the porch, sign up for a retreat, learn yoga, pray, color, laugh, spend time in nature, call an old girlfriend, take the day off, and write that memoir.  Yes! Yes! Yes!  That is the beautiful voice of enchantment.   It’s that time that you take for yourself that makes your soul happy,  Now, here lies the challenge….  Nobody can tell you what that is for your life.  You must be brave enough to imagine it, assign time for it, and then enjoy it.

Friends, there will always be stuff that we “have to do.” but listening to your heart and honoring your soul is the pathway to your sweet enchantment. I hope you take a little extra time for yourself this week.  The truth is….we are the ones that create our own destiny, and we are the ONLY ones that can create magic.
